sorbion sana on UK Drug Tariff from March 1st

February 12, 2009:

sorbion AG is an innovative German company specializing in advanced wound care solutions. sorbion wound dressings combine the modern values of quality, effectiveness and value for money with the traditional value of focusing  on the patient’s quality of life.

The new sorbion sana range, which was launched internationally at the 2008 EWMA Conference in Lisbon will be included in the cavity dressing section of the UK Drug Tariff from March 1st 2009. “We are very exited to launch sorbion sana in the UK –there is a real clinical need for a dressing which offers an innovation in exudate management, painfree removal and extended weartime” says Mike Hoskins of H&R Healthcare, the UK Distributor of the sorbion product range.

sorbion sana is the new atraumatic wound dressing for exudating wounds. It absorbs and retains wound exudate and binds MMPs, which can delay wound healing and damage the area around the wound. At the same time, the wound is kept in a moist state, supporting the body’s inherent wound healing processes.

The innovative 3-D non-adherent envelope makes sorbion sana an excellent dressing for cavity wounds. It is atraumatic as it minimises the pain and trauma associated with dressing change, and in addition ensures the wound dressing has the minimum possible contact with the wound bed thereby minimising disruption to the granulation phase.

sorbion sana is made of hypoallergenic components. It is ultrasonically sealed and has been produced without any glues or adhesive agents. This makes the sorbion sana the dressing of choice for patients with known sensitivities or allergies.

Initial feedback from clinicians and patients has been ‘’quite outstanding’’, according to Mike Hoskins.

An independently produced poster [1] presented at the recent Wounds UK Conference in Harrogate (November 2008) shows excellent results on patients with deep venous leg ulcers and substantial tissue damage which were consuming vast amounts of nursing time. Not only did wounds heal more quickly, there were also significant cost savings due to a reduction of nursing time and overall costs of product used. None of the patients in the evaluation experienced any skin irritation, and when consulted all patients expressed a preference for sorbion sana rather than their previous dressings.

sorbion AG again is proud to offer a unique dressing with unique properties for patient based wound care.
